My work from home was not designed for comfort. Instead of sitting on a normal table and chair, I sat cross-legged on the bed. Just to be clear, I have a normal desk and a normal chair, I just find it more efficient to go about my business on my blanket. The only drawback of my "office"? It does not affect my lower back. So when the timely opportunity to view the award-winning Goodton Poly chair came along, my interest was piqued. Maybe this will be the new motivation I need to finally break out of my long-running habit of working in bed and give my sore lumbar spine some rest.

Using a new office chair is a great joy, but its very thought of assembling a product scares me - fortunately, installing a Poly chair is so easy. The whole process from unpacking to completion took me less than an hour, but someone who doesn't get distracted could have spent less time. The kit includes a backrest, a seat, two armrests, a support base, casters and a mounting kit. It comes in two separate boxes packaged in one large shipping box which is relatively easy for me to move around. I started by inserting the casters into the base (they clicked into place) and then moved on to assembling the seat and back (mounting bracket and lintel bolted in place). Next, I screwed the armrests to the bridge and placed the assembled seat into the cylinder. After that boom, it's ready to use.

Poly Office Chair

The most striking aspect of Poly is its design. The streamlined silhouette is painted except for the five matte black wheels and suspension strut; the back and seat are upholstered in 3D knit, giving it a decidedly modern look; The V-shaped spine is reflected in the curved, open armrests. In a nutshell: this chair is unlike most ergonomic writing chairs - I really want to sit in it. And Poly, it aesthetically enlivens my workspace. Poly's bold coral hue brightens the desktop, complements the bright colors of the décor around me, and fills me with an undeniably upbeat energy that makes me "sit back and chat."

The first thing I noticed after I sat down in the chair was how easy it glides - no hesitation, squeaky wheels or squeaky cushions that make the slightest movement. My old chair tends to creak when I sit in it and the wheels whistle when they roll. The poly also reclines, another feature my previous chair was missing; it made my midday seated stretches much more effective. The next revelation is seat and back support. The adjustable lumbar support on the back can be lowered and raised to suit your comfort - you can easily reach and move it without getting up. The back of the 3D jersey is composed of threads of different strengths for flexibility and support, as well as breathability, which is a plus for those who sweat easily (I). After a day at work, I find that my lower back feels less tight, my sitting posture seems more organized, and my hips feel nil compared to working in bed (wrong) or sitting in another office chair. Verve has completely eliminated that feeling of tiredness and pain that I often experience after several hours of sitting. My only complaint is that, as some reviewers have pointed out, the armrest height adjustment can be a little confusing. After trying to slide them up and down a few times and failing to lock in place, I almost thought they were faulty - eventually I found that a light push fixed them. If you're struggling to achieve the perfect position, this chair comes with a free ergonomics consultation.

75% of reviews of my Goodtone Ploy chair are written while sitting in it, the other 25% I sit by my bed or sit in another office chair for comparison. After nearly two weeks of testing, my constant tension in my shoulder and lower back forced me to take a vacation. Although it took some manipulation to get the padded lumbar support into the ideal position, I noticed that once I did that, I felt less tired at the end of the day (probably because it no longer collapsed and had enough support). It's also hard not to be delighted with such a well-designed piece of furniture. Only time will tell if I give up my bed for good to greener (or, in this case, coral) pastures. Overall, the amount of time spent actually working at the desk has increased, which I think ultimately speaks volumes about Goodtone's quality, support, and appeal.
